The 60-Second Beginner Guide
If you know how to play Texas Hold'em, you are 90% of the way to playing Omaha! The betting and the community cards work exactly the same. But instead of 2 secret cards, you get 4! This makes the game much more explosive because players can make incredibly strong hands. However, there is a strict rule that tricks every beginner: When making your final 5-card poker hand, you HAVE to use exactly 2 cards from your hand and exactly 3 from the table. You can't use 3 from your hand and 2 from the table. You can't use 1 from your hand and 4 from the table. Exactly 2 and 3!
1. Setup
- 1Just like Texas Hold'em, the two players left of the dealer post the Small Blind and Big Blind to start the pot.
- 2Here is the big difference: The dealer gives every player 4 private hole cards instead of 2. Only you can see them.
- 3The remaining deck is placed in the center.
2. How to Play
The betting rounds are identical to Texas Hold'em: Pre-Flop, Flop (3 community cards), Turn (1 community card), and River (1 community card).
Players bet, raise, call, or fold on each street based on the strength of their hand.
Scoring
- •Omaha uses standard 5-card poker hand rankings (High Card to Royal Flush).
- •THE GOLDEN RULE OF OMAHA: To make your final 5-card hand, you MUST use exactly two (2) cards from your private hand, and exactly three (3) cards from the community board. No exceptions!
- •For example, if the board has 4 Hearts, and you have 1 Heart in your hand, you DO NOT have a flush! You must use 2 cards from your hand.
Winning Conditions
- ✓You win the pot if all other players fold to your bets before the River.
- ✓If multiple players reach the Showdown, the player with the strongest 5-card hand (strictly adhering to the 2-from-hand, 3-from-board rule) wins the pot.
