The 60-Second Beginner Guide
Teen Patti (which translates to "Three Cards") is like a hyper-fast version of poker! You get 3 cards, and the goal is to have the best 3-card hand. The coolest part of Teen Patti is the "Blind" mechanic. You can choose NOT to look at your cards! If you don't look, betting is cheaper. If you DO look, you know if your hand is good, but your bets cost double! It's a game of psychology. You bet around the circle, and if someone's bets get too expensive, they will fold. If you have terrible cards but bet confidently, you might just scare everyone into folding and win the pot!
1. Setup
- 1Before the cards are dealt, every player must contribute a small, equal amount (the "Boot" or "Ante") into the center to form the initial pot.
- 2The dealer gives exactly 3 cards, face-down, to every player at the table.
2. How to Play
Players sit in a circle and take turns deciding whether to bet money to stay in the game or to "Pack" (fold/quit).
You have a crucial choice to make: Play "Blind" or "Seen".
Playing "Blind": You leave your cards face-down on the table. You are betting in the dark! The advantage is that your bets cost half as much as a "Seen" player.
Playing "Seen": You pick up your cards and look at them. You know exactly how good your hand is! The disadvantage is that you must bet double the amount of a Blind player.
You can transition from Blind to Seen at any point during your turn, but once you look at your cards, you must pay the higher Seen stakes for the rest of the game.
Scoring
- •Because you only have 3 cards, the hand rankings are different from standard poker! From highest to lowest:
- •1. Trio / Trail (Three of a kind - e.g., A-A-A is the absolute best hand).
- •2. Pure Sequence / Straight Flush (3 consecutive cards of the exact same suit - e.g., 4-5-6 of Hearts).
- •3. Sequence / Run (3 consecutive cards of different suits - e.g., 7-8-9).
- •4. Color / Flush (3 cards of the exact same suit, but not in order).
- •5. Pair (2 cards of the same rank).
- •6. High Card (If nobody has anything, the highest single card wins. Ace is high).
Winning Conditions
- ✓You win if your aggressive betting convinces every other player at the table to Pack (fold). You take the pot without having to show your cards.
- ✓If only two players remain, one player can pay to demand a "Showdown." Both players reveal their cards, and the highest ranking 3-card hand wins the pot.
